Foods to Eat

- Smoothie—A nice, fresh smoothie is also an acceptable choice when flying. Something made with fresh fruit/vegetables and natural yogurt is delicious, filling, and soothing on the stomach. Just make sure you choose something without a lot of sugar, which causes fatigue.

- Fast Food—Regardless of what it is, you want to avoid eating fast food before getting on a plane, because fast food is saturated with grease. Once you’re at a high altitude, there is a good chance you will start to experience heartburn, gas, and bloating.
- Garlic—Although garlic is healthy and delicious, it is not the best food to consume when flying. Garlic causes bad breath that can make the flight miserable for other passengers seated nearby. Remember, the compounds of garlic absorb into the lungs and bloodstream, so even if you brush your teeth or use mints, the strong aroma lingers.
- Sugar-Free Gum or Candy—To prevent ears from clogging during takeoff, many people chew gum or suck on candy. If you need to do this, just be sure you stay clear of sugar-free products. The sweeteners used in these products are notorious for causing diarrhea, gas, and bloating.
- Carbonated Beverages—Even if you’re tempted to grab a soda or other beverage with carbonation, wait until after reaching your destination, in that these lead to bloating and gas.
